Police have confirmed that a man who attempted to escape a burglary at a Chinese home has been shot dead by police.

The Federal Police Commission has said that at least eight people have been shot and killed by police in connection with a robbery at a Chinese home in the Bole suburb of Bole sub-city.

The suspects, who were being escorted to the Chinese custody while being monitored by police Intelligence members, were arrested and released on suspicion of assault while one of them was taken to hospital for treatment while one of them tried to escape during the robbery.

The commission said the individuals had previously been arrested by police for carrying out criminal activities in different places, including wearing uniforms and weapons, and using various vehicles. The commission says they are being investigated.
