Foreign Minister Dr Ahmed Shaheed has said that: "It is very difficult to give any reason why we should not have ties to Israel. I'm saying this because Palestine has ties with Israel," he said. "And one country that we look to the most from the Arab world, Egypt, is a country that has ties with Israel and continues to strengthen them.""There is no record in the foreign ministry that we severed ties with Israel. I've tried very hard to find records that show we cut off ties or to find out the reason for it.""If we consider who commits atrocities against Muslims the most, that would include Muslim countries," he said. "Should we therefore cut off ties with them?"
