They set out in mid-February and returned almost a month later. The convoy called Viva Palestina went out with over £1 million in aid in what is the biggest aid convoy ever to travel to Gaza. However, the media decided to ignore this event which is not surprising, considering the medias obsession with celebrity culture. A celebrity dying of cancer received more press than hundreds of children dying and suffering from the aftermath of a massacre. In view of this, we think it is important that those who donated and helped the convoy in its noble mission, understand what these brave volunteers saw. How did they get there? What did they experience? What difficulties did they face? What was Gaza like? Who was the aid given to and Why?All praises be to ALLAH (SWT), Gaza through our Eyes is an attempt to share the story of those who travelled to Gaza and distributed the aid amongst the suffering. A people who despite living in impoverished conditions akin to an open-air prison and cut off from the rest of the world, continue to display resilience and defiance against oppression and brutality. From two people who took part in the convoy, Shaykh Zahir from our very own As Suffa Institute and one of the many scholars who embarked on the journey, will provide us with a unique insight into what he saw, felt and experienced. George Galloway MP, the mastermind of the Viva Palestina convoy will also grace the occasion to share his experience of travelling to and meeting the people of Gaza.InshaAllah (SWT) 10th of May will prove to be a pivotal night in enabling us to learn about what they saw and how we need to keep the effort up.The chant still reverberates through the minds of those who embarked on the journey to Gaza, the same chant which was heard throughout the bombardment:With soulWith bloodWe give everything for GazaWe pray that this event reinvigorates the remembrance of Gaza firm in our hearts and first in our minds.Oh Gaza! We will not forget how you bleed and hurt whilst the world watches on.
